The latest draft of the Portland Plan is now ready for public review and comment, and can be found at: The City of Portland describes the Portland Plan as the ”road map to help our city thrive into the future.” It contains three integrated strategies and a framework for advancing equity that are intended to work together to realize ”the vision of a prosperous, healthy, and equitable Portland.” The three integrated strategies center on (1) Thriving Educated Youth, (2) Economic Prosperity and Affordability, and (3) Healthy Connected City.

The first strategy is education-oriented, and includes creating neighborhoods and communities that support youth, and supporting facilities and programs that will prepare the City’s children for 21st-century opportunities and challenges. The second strategy seeks to promote regional traded-sector job growth, and to support job growth in the City’s business districts. The third strategy is focused on improving human and environmental health by, among other things, providing greenspaces and services within walking distance of all neighborhoods.

A number of public hearings are scheduled around the Portland area in the next six weeks, and written comments will be accepted through November 30, 2011.
