Although the S&P/Case-Shiller index reported that home prices in 20 U.S. cities decreased more than the forecast for the month of September 2011 over September 2010, Portland actually bucked the trend and posted a gain in home prices, along with Washington D.C. and New York City. On the bright side for most housing markets, if one is a die-hard optimist, the overall year-over-year decline in September was the smallest in seven months.
